As a veterinarian, I was called in to examine a 10-year-old Irish wolfhound named Belker.
Here is the surprising answer of a 6 years old boy!
The dog's owners, including Ron, his wife Lisa, and their young son Shane, were very attached to their dog, hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and diagnosed him as dying of cancer. I suggested to the family that there was nothing left to do for Belker and, based on their permission, to apply euthanasia by putting them to sleep at home.
After making the necessary preparations, the family said it would be good for their 6-year-old son, Shane, to see the app, too. They thought Shane could learn something from this experience.
The next day we gathered around the familiar knot in my throat again and the family and dog. The little boy was so calm as he said "Goodbye", petting his dog one last time, that I thought he didn't understand what was going on. Within minutes, Belker had passed away silently.
Interestingly, the little boy had accepted Belker's departure without any difficulty. After bidding farewell to Belker, sitting with the family questioning "why dogs live less than humans", the little boy suddenly said "I know why". “People are born and live to learn to be good, live the right life, and love everyone, right?” The little boy continued his speech between our bewildered looks, “The dogs don't need to stay as long as we do, since they already know and practice all of this!”
I started thinking about the little boy's speech;
Live simply
Love unconditionally
Feel deeply
Speak kindly and sincerely
If dogs were teachers, what would they teach us?
When your loved ones come home, make sure to run and greet them
Don't miss any opportunity to have fun and be happy
Enjoy the wind blowing on your face and the fresh air
Take short naps
Stretches before getting up
Run, jump and play at every opportunity
Don't get bored and let people touch you
If a little bark is enough, don't bite
Don't forget to take a little break on hot days and lie down on your back on the grass
Drink lots of water on very hot days and don't forget to take shelter in the shade
Dance with your whole body when you're happy
Enjoy even small walks
Be loyal
Don't act like someone you've never been
If what you want is buried deep, don't give up and dig until you find it
If someone is upset, sit quietly next to them and support them politely
Here are the secrets of happiness we can learn from dogs!
